about
It’s been a busy few months for Nashville based singer-songwriter, David Newbould. In May he released a double sided single (“Nobody Knows” b/w “Milwaukee”), showcased at Americana West Music Festival in LA, toured the west coast with label mate Rosy Nolan, and returned home to continue working on tracks for upcoming release. Coinciding with a 3 week European tour this November with his band, David Newbould is releasing two new singles to streaming services, “Morning” (October 27), and “Jean” (November 10), both via Blackbird Record Label.
“Jean”, relives memories of people who affected our lives when we were young, whether they were aware of their impact or not. It speaks from one former school classmate to another, revealing the hope that we may all hold true to the values that were so impactful all those years ago. While they’d go on about 10 year old life / She filled my head with dreams and I took flight / Jean - do you still dream?…
Both "Morning" and "Jean" were produced and recorded in primitive fashion at Newbould’s home studio, Carport Lovin’, with him playing all the instruments himself. “Just whatever mics and skills I could cobble together. Was fun!”. Mixes were assisted by longtime producer friend, Billy Harvey.
lyrics
Jean was a fifth grade classmate of mine
Maybe not too cool but she always was kind
While they’d go on about 10 year old life
She’d fill my head with dreams and I took flight
Jean
Do you still dream? Jean you always taught me to walk
With my head up high in the face of their talk
It wasn’t anything that you said
But the scars that you hid while you kept your head
Jean
Do you still dream?
Jean was a fifth grade classmate of mine
But she’d left town by the end of summertime
She came to tell me goodbye but I wasn’t there
She had them tell me no past can defeat you
And don’t be scared
Jean
Do you still dream?
Jean
Do you still dream?
